EXPERIENCE AND SHARING

Introduce yourself

Sam
Hello, I'm Sam. I graduated from NTU CSIE. Although I majored in computer science, I found myself more interested in business. To cultivate different skill sets, I participated in three internships in different industries and environments, from app startup, service provider to international network company. These experiences not only sharpened my skills but also let me know what I really want in my career path.
Linda
Hi! I am Linda Wu, graduated from NCTU Management Science in university, and NTU MBA for master degree. During my university, I participated in numerous activities to broaden my social circle and horizon. I also went to France as an exchange student as a junior in college. During graduate school, my life was full of case studies, graduate thesis and internships. I have been to retail business and Internet company for intern. These experiences help me find direction for my future career.
Jeff
My name is Jeff. I graduated from National Chung Hsin University. I majored in Business Administration. During school, I was an executive secretary and a bridge of communication between alumni and students. After graduation, I entered the International Trade Institute (TAITRA) on the one-year International Business Administration Program (IBAP) to sharpen my English and enhance my business knowledge. The diverse courses at ITI made me become a more well-rounded person.
Janice
I am Janice from Global Service Center. I graduated from National Chiao Tung University and I have a master degree of Technology Management. During my college and graduate school year, I have participated in two internships, which are marketing in technology industry and after sales intern in automobile industry.
Jan
I graduated from National Cheng-chi University with the Master's Degree in International Business. I had internship experience in both finance and FMCG industry, and the main job was to support PM in different aspects. I also joined a new product development competition.

Why did you choose GTP?

Sam
I wanted to work with overseas people to understand the international market more. Besides, GTP offers enriching courses which can support me to grasp knowledge not only limited to sales but also for marketing, accounting, service and so on. Also, it's important for me to learn with other new comers to discuss and share our experiences. Only ASUS offers this opportunity.
Linda
When I choosing a career path, I wanted to be able to utilize the skills I learned at school and absorb new knowledge in the meantime, work in international and friendly environment, and take challenges. ASUS offered all of this in a three-month intensive training program for new GTPers, who are going to be not only your colleagues but also your friends. After onboard, I will take charge of a country/territory business, which is a big opportunity to apply what school taught you.
Jeff
ASUS is an international company, it makes me stand on the shoulders of a giant and broadened my horizons. In additions, GTP offers a great combination of training, support, and advancement opportunities for me to pursue a career in the industry.
Janice
ASUS is a famous brand company, and the business territory has been expanded to many countries. GTP program includes completed training course, internship at RC and mentor supervision. The course converses about sales, marketing and service topics, which enables me to understand an overall concept of ASUS business. I was attracted by the completed training program since I think this is a good start for my first job.
Jan
ASUS is a global company in IT industry. Here I am able to gain global exposure and sharpen my professional vision and skills.
GTP provides tailored training including comprehensive courses and 2-week internship. Within three months, we can have basic professional knowledge covering product knowledge, sales fundamental, and service operation. We also engage in front-end daily works. On top of that, GTP program arranged for each of us a mentor who guided us during our training. For a newcomer, GTP offers an opportunity to quickly understand corporate operation and helps us get ready for work.

What is the best part of GTP training?

Sam
We can have a wide view to see how to administer a market by product, price, promotion, place and service with international thinking. We can learn things at a higher-level view, observing the market as a real manager.
Linda
The training not only let me quickly grasp the domain knowledge that I wasn’t familiar before, but also let us to think, make constructive interference and propose solutions.
Jeff
In my point of view, the best part of GTP training is that I met a group of supportive colleagues. We learned and studied together. Sometimes we can help each other because lots of us were from different backgrounds. Also during the training, we had a one-month internship in Taiwan team. We had opportunities to attend the meetings with distributors and dealers. It would be a valuable experience.
Janice
The best part is that I met lots of "friends" in GTP program. They are different people from different fields, and most of us are just graduated from school. It is really lucky to have a bunch of colleagues to learn and grow together in the first job. We learn, work, and have fun together. Network is important, and the GTPers enables me to know other people from different function.
Jan
As a GSM, it is important to have general understanding of different functions. Accordingly, I would say the best part of GTP training is the organized courses lectured by seniors and the front-end internship, which enabled me to think from different perspectives and to turn to the right support when dealing with challenging tasks in on-job training.

Tell us about your current job

Sam
As country product manager in India, I'm in charge of the desktop and commercial market. We just started our commercial business in India. For me, it's a valued and special opportunity.
Linda
My current job includes monitoring supply chain fulfillment of South America market, having meeting with cross function teams to connect HQ and locals, analyzing competition and opportunity of the market.
Jeff
Briefly, I would divide my current job into three parts. First is forecast, I would check if the forecast is aligned with our planning and review if weekly order hit-rate is on the track. Secondly, I need to check if sell out is aligned with our target. Finally, I need to know the inventory aging status by models.
Janice
I am responsible for service package (including warranty extension and warranty upgrade) sales in APAC, NA and SA region. Although this is part of service function, it has strong connection with sales since we need to work with them to promote this product. This requires not only service knowledge but also sales/PM skills, which is challenging but also interesting at the same time.
Jan
I’m GSM in charge of phone (South America market) and phone accessory. We review country service KPI weekly and establish improvement process with cross-functional team. We also do cost analysis, conduct quality event control, set up the service policy and initiate customized service project. We ensure the required service satisfaction level is achieved with optimized cost. After 4 months training, I’m sure this is a challenging job and there are still many interesting parts worth exploring in “service”.

What challenges have you faced and how did you solve it?

Sam
As country product managers, we have influence in lots of key decisions. It is our honor but also our challenge. We have to work with people who have more experience than ourselves, and try to express our opinions to convince them. Elaborate features and price of the product to sales team to increase sales volume. Discuss the position of products with marketing team to enhance our brand value. Walk out to the real market, and interact with the customers to get more information. These challenges may frustrate us, but also make us grow fast by learning things from your managers and senior professionals in the industry.
Linda
South America is the farthest market from HQ, 13 hours of time difference and long lead-time. As a result, efficient and accurate communication is important.
Jeff
I think the most challenging thing is communication. Sometimes we not only communicate with colleagues in Taiwan but also we need to work with the people from different countries or cultures and make sure we use the "same language " to communicate (You know there are tons of jargon in this industry). So I think the self-study is really important to make you improve quickly. Also, the senior staff is willing to answer your questions.
Janice
Due to the job feature, unlike other service department, I need to contact sales most of the time. Therefore, I have to be familiar with some sales knowledge to have a better communication. To handle the cross-functional situation, I have some basic sales knowledge that learned from GTP training courses, this does help me when I really started to do my job. In addition, the viewpoint sometimes is different between service and sales. I will think from different perspectives and communicate with sales to make a win-win decision.
Jan
I think the most challenging part so far would be cooperating with cross function team and solving problems effectively and correctly. I will be faced with all kinds of service problems worldwide all day long, and my goal is to make every effort to comprehensively analyze the problem, develop actionable recommendations, discuss with experienced supervisors, and then solve it as soon as possible.

What's your career plan in the future?

Sam
To be honest, I am not sure. There is no answer to how much I can learn from this position so far, so… I will keep digging it out as I continue on this journey.
Linda
In short-term, I’ll try to improve supply chain, discuss strategies with my local country. To get more understanding about the market, hope to seize the opportunity of being on business trip to local market.
Jeff
The GTP provides the complete global rotation included different countries. First 2 years I hope I can keep learning and improving myself and I hope I can gain a lot of experience as a market development manager. After that, I would like to specialize in developing new markets and also be able to apply my knowledge which gained in ASUS.
Janice
Except for handling Service Package Sales, I am also under training of calculating service cost. This is another important topic in service department. I would love to learn as more knowledge as possible, I hope that I can become a professional in service field. In the future, I wish I can take along with what I have learned in HQ and expatriate to another country.
Jan
Having been a GSM for almost 4 months, thanks to GTP and ASUS, I really enjoyed different challenges and realized the importance of PM skills. In the future, I would like to find out more possibilities in service and become a good GSM. I wish I could cultivate different kinds of capabilities and shine in ASUS.

A sentence for new graduate

Sam
You may be very upset now because looking for a job can be frustrating and challenging. Seeing that your classmates got some dream offers may fluster you. But… Don't be afraid. Go with your gut feeling, embrace the challenges and new things. You will actually learn more than you could’ve known.
Linda
Trust in yourself no matter how frustrated or smoothly on your way. The more you interview, the more you get to know yourself.
Jeff
I would say that if you would like to grow with the company where can learn new thing, get close to the real market, and contribute your value. Join us, Asus GTP provides a room to exert strength.
Janice
As a new graduate, I highly recommend to start from an organized and scaled company as your very first beginning. A big company like ASUS has a lot of resources for you to explore and learn. GTP program is equipped with solid training courses, internship session and mentor leading, which can give new comers a completed training to handle the following job tasks.
Jan
Understand yourself better and discover what you are good at. Most important of all, be open minded to accept new challenges in dynamic environment.

What's your hobby?

Sam
Travel!!! Working in India gives me a lot of opportunities to visit places where Taiwanese rarely come. Every weekend, I visit different Indian cities. Visit spots, experience life and enjoy the humanities. Throughout this year, I have added tongs of great contnet to my travel blog, and an added bonus is its a great stress reliever!
Linda
I like to make meals, traveling, camping, watching movie, just to name a few. I traveled to 7+ countries during my exchange life, the time that I started to cook and became a backpacker, which is the most memorable time of my life so far.
Jeff
To achieve work-life balance is important and exercise is an effective stress reducer. So I like to workout at the weekend. Also, I am a big fan of NBA and I like to watch the basketball game with my friends. In sum, I always make myself feel energized and ready to face the coming week.
Janice
One of my hobbies is travelling. I have few experiences of studying abroad and during the time, I made plans to explore other countries and experience. I enjoyed discovering new places and meet new people.
Jan
When people ask me what I am enthusiastic about, “traveling” always comes to my mind first. I love to experience new cultures and meet new people during the journey. Through traveling, my perspective of the world, of family and of everything in life, is constantly refined.
